Squinting at tiny menu text or turning the volume way up to catch the dialogue? Most smart TVs and streaming devices have built-in settings that make a big difference, and few people know they’re there.
Where to look
On most TVs and streaming devices, open Settings and look for Accessibility. Sometimes it’s under General or System. The names vary by brand, but you’ll usually find:
- Zoom or larger text to make menus bigger.
- High contrast to make text stand out from the background.
- Captions, with options for size and color so they’re easy to read.
- Dialogue or voice boost on many TVs and soundbars, so voices come through clearly without blasting the music.
The same idea works on phones and tablets
iPhones, iPads and Android devices all let you make text bigger and bolder in their Display or Accessibility settings. It’s one of the first things we set up for clients who find their screens hard to read.
We’ll set it up for you
In a one-on-one visit we can adjust the TV, phone and tablet so everything is easier to see and hear, then show you how to change it yourself. Family members are welcome to schedule a visit for a parent or grandparent.
